yahoo!'s acqusitions

In recent weeks, Yahoo! has acquired photo sharing portal Flickr, widget manager Konfabulator as well as most recently the bookmarking site del.icio.us.

This news is not new by any means, but it should be an interesting year for users of theses various sites - especially how Yahoo! will seek to integrate these into their communities (whether voluntarily, or by forcing users to migrate to Yahoo! email account).

As noticed, it is still very early days in these various sites' existence under new ownership, but it shows a different divergence strategy from that of Google - who often prefer to develop their new community sites (often as a spin off from their staff playgrounds).

As long as one overall profile can be used to manage your unique profile between each of these sites, then that will at least be a step in the right direction...
